Joseph L. Perry, PA-C
Joe was born and raised in east Texas and initially attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He received an Associates Degree in Biology from San Jacinto College in Houston and completed his medical training at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, graduating in 1998. He was the student representative to the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
After graduation, he trained in Occupational Medicine in Lake Jackson, Texas. A year later, when his wife graduated as a PA, he relocated to North Houston, where he worked in a large orthopedic group with 12 surgeons and 7 PAs. He trained within all facets of this group, including spine, sports medicine and trauma. His primary focus, however, was with the Total Joint Replacement and Hand Specialists for KSF Orthopedics (see www.ksfortho.com).
In 2005, he moved to Tyler, Texas, where he spent a couple of years refining his skills and training with the Orthopaedic Trauma specialists at East Texas Medical Center. ETMC is one of only a handful of level one trauma centers in Texas. While in the Tyler area, he was the medical provider on the sidelines for the Whitehouse and Big Sandy High school football teams.
Upon arriving in Amarillo, Texas, in November 2006, Joe worked for Parker Sports Medicine (see www.drparker.com) and became very involved with the community by helping to start up a PA-staffed local urgent care orthopedic clinic and making it a success. He has been the “team doc” for several high schools in the Texas panhandle by being on the sidelines at football games and for yearly sports physicals. He was the primary medical provider during home games for the Arena football team, the Amarillo Dusters in the 2007 and 2008 seasons and the Amarillo Venom from 2009 to 2016.
He moved to Citrus County in July 2016 and is currently the orthopedic provider for the Direct Orthopedic Clinic in Crystal River and serves independently as he did for 10 years in Texas. He hopes to incorporate his skills and immerse his personality into the Citrus community. Joe is fluent in Spanish and is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Texas Academy of Physician Assistants and the Association of Orthopaedic Physician Assistants.
He has been happily married for 20 years to his wife, Beth, and they have three awesome children. As for his hobbies/interests, he states, "I enjoy dining, travelling and relaxing with my wife, giving fatherly advice and talking football with my son in Dallas and swimming with my daughters. I make time for ‘Daddy-Daughter’ days and short expeditions with my high school and middle school girls. I have been a Dallas Cowboys fan through thick and thin, and I try to relax by taking time to play a little golf or go for a ride on my Harley in the beautiful Florida countryside."
